About Us
The Journey began in 1997 and continued into 2002 with only 2 Thursdays in the month of May. In 2002 we decided to try to make the Journey a weekly event. Since then, we have given away 18,000 books. The books are paid for by donations from local service groups, and individuals who value early literacy. (See the Resources page for a list of donors.)
The Association for the Education of Young Children (AEYC), Even Start, Peru Retired Teachers, Child Care Council, Head Start, RSVP, CFE Library Systems, Plattsburgh Library, Literacy Volunteers of Clinton County, and Champlain Valley Reading Council are among the volunteers who helped with the Journey.
We have sign-in sheets to keep track of the names and ages of the children who hear stories and receive books. We also keep track of the number of adults we speak with concerning early literacy.
Help us out: Donate!
Please make your tax-exempt donation to: CCCCNC (Child Care Coordinating Council of the North Country) PO Box 2640, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. They pay the invoices for the books we purchase. All funds collected buy the free books used in Journey Into Reading.
